The innovation
Our research led us to an invention by a physician with experience in hospital hygiene, who applies a natural physicochemical principle to combat multidrug-resistant hospital germs on a wide range of surfaces. It is currently the only technology with an antimicrobial effect that is both reliable and at the same time environment-friendly.
We have succeeded in transferring this technology to our plastics. This allows us to produce our own ballpoint pens using clinical, antimicrobial material.

How the *clinic® technology works
The ingredients react with oxygen and moisture in the air in a physicochemical interaction while also destroying a variety of germs and viruses.
Microfine catalysts are embedded in the clinic® plastics, which, once stimulated, produce a permanently high electrostatic charge on the surface. When this charge comes into contact with oxygen and moisture in the air, it leads to the production of free radicals (H3O+ molecules) and an acidic environment (pH 4.2) comparable to the natural protective acid mantle of our skin.
No silver ions • no titanium dioxide • requires no additional UV light
Sham safety – methods that do not work:
Nanosilver. Antimicrobial methods that work with silver do not work or are insufficiently effective:
Silver ions become depleted within just a few weeks. They react to form silver sulphide, therefore becoming ineffective. (Silver sulphide is commonly known as the dark patina that forms on old silver cutlery).
Furthermore: Nanosilver is particularly problematic to the environment and human health.
Titanium dioxide only functions under UV light.
This method does not work at night, in your pocket or indoors! Furthermore: The effect is uncertain – because the power of titanium dioxide as a catalyst is mainly depleted through destroying the organic plastic in which it is embedded. This problem is well known in expert circles.
Conclusion: Self-disinfection is pointless if it does not work reliably all the time.

Oxygen radicals destroy the germ coat. Acid water molecules dissolve the pathogen and block resistance-generating enzymes in the cell nucleus.

Against which microbes do *clinic® plastics offer protection?
*clinic® plastics protect against bacteria and enveloped viruses, including coronaviruses.
They offer a wide spectrum of activity, regardless of antibiotic resistance, are effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (bacterial enzymes) and vancomycin-resistant enterococci.
Tested according to ISO 22196 and ISO 21702 – RODAC plate method.
The antimicrobial effect has been certified as log3 to log4 (strong to very strong). All tests are subject to quality assurance in accordance with EN ISO/ IEC 17025:2017.
How quickly does the antimicrobial effect of *clinic® plastics begin?
Viruses and bacteria always discover a biocidal surface. This means that the viral load is immediately severely reduced.
90% of the germs are eliminated within one hour. Sweat and lipids in the skin do not diminish the effect.
Please note: all disinfection products need a certain time to get into effect.
For how long is an antimicrobial effect guaranteed?
We provide a 10-year guarantee.
The antimicrobial effect actually lasts much longer than this as catalysts are not used up – but they can age and so do not remain effective forever.
